This app turns your boring run into an action movie

This app turns your boring run into an action movie

BetaList features the newest startups. Today, we take a closer look at Tracks, an app that turns your boring run into an action movie. Submit your startup to get featured.

Please describe Tracks and how it works

Tracks is an app for runners that provides a dynamic auditory narrative.

When running, the user hears two types of sound – a story part, which has a narrative, and the mission part, which provides a guide for running. For example, you might hear a monster chasing you or a building collapsing, and be given a mission to jog or sprint through the area as appropriate.

It’s an exercise app that makes the running experience more fun, as it can be rather banal in most cases.

What inspired you to create it?

Tracks might remind you of Zombies, Run! and that’s expected as we also took a look at Zombies, Run! and thought, “It would be nice to have this kind of exercise app available in Korean.”

The biggest source of inspiration however, was actually a game for Sega Saturn called ‘Real Sound: Kaze no Regret.’ The entire game is played using the sound alone. It was a shocking experience to say the least, and I was weirdly drawn into the game; totally immersed.

That childhood experience had a great impact on this project. I wanted to build something with just the sounds.

How’s the Indiegogo campaign going?

Not bad. We got a decent return on our marketing efforts, but we expect to see even better results once we get through the beta test, which is starting this week.

Tracks

Where would you like to see Tracks in 5 years?

Hmm… Five years? I don’t know. Honestly, I can’t think of anything off the top of my head, but perhaps we’ll see it on wearable devices, and it’ll be a much more interactive app.

The first thing that comes to mind is that we’ll have many more stories available, across a variety of genres. ‘Growler’ is the first story we have on Tracks, and it’s an action or sci-fi type of genre. Perhaps in five years we’ll have other stories in action, thriller, or even romance genres in addition to Growler.

That’s our goal anyway. We expect to see a greater variety of genres available on Tracks in the future for sure.
